Air Pollution is Real but so are Air Purifiers

There are not too many places left in this earth where the air blows fresh and free. Pollution has made its impact on a global note and continues to do so with a vengeful hatred that edges quite close to the sadistic edge. Therefore, people and nature alike are suffering from the ill-effects of air pollution all over the world.

The society of human beings is a complicated one with a multitude of complexities having taken place – for that matter, there may be one or more complexity taking place right now. However, this barrage of complications is not strictly destructive in nature when compared to a similar complication taking place in the air that is inhaled every single day. Air pollution had led to the overall ambience becoming into a diverse pit of absolutely poisonous proportions.

Therefore, all countries of the world are not safe from the nemesis of air pollution. From the United States of America to India, each and every country today is facing the scourge of air pollution today. Further, the presence of man-made resources that encourage air pollution has made the matter even worse. For example, a lion’s share of rural Indian households use solid fuel for cooking within enclosed surroundings. Therefore, the poisonous gases that are given off from the burning fuel do not have a path to escape in the air outside and instead indoors instead – as a result the air within four walls gets polluted.

There are many different types of air pollution making lives of people miserable in the world today. One of those types is technically known as Indoor Air Pollution (IAP). In layman terms, it means the pollution within the air indoors getting polluted.

Although, there are many different ways for tackling IAP; the best way these days is the usage of a device known as an air purifier. It works by sieving the air out of pollutants and is known to do so at a removal rate of 99.97 per cent.

The world today has a large number of companies that are involved in the business of making and selling air purifiers. However, companies like Blueair (www.blueair.in; 011 4606 7140) have gone a step ahead by incorporating the need for combating air pollution into their CSR endeavors.

Vijay Kannan, the chief of Blueair India can attest to this fact owing to the presence of the Clean Air India Movement (CLAIM). It is an awareness campaign that has been started by Blueair in India, initially in Gurgaon. Today, however, the campaign is witnessing a pan-Indian awareness.  The future for mankind is certainly a uncertain one; however, the same can’t be said for the future of air pollution – its days are numbered because there are the wonderful air purifiers of Blueair as their death knells.

Happiness: An Ode to Health and Wellbeing

It you have a healthy body and mind then happiness will follow. All the three elements are interlinked to each other.

Human beings live longer and have a heightened sense of wellbeing. This sense of wellbeing is greatly influenced by having an optimistic outlook towards life. Further, the word ‘wellbeing’ is relative in nature. First, it might depend from person to person. Second, natural wellbeing takes into account both mental and physical health – both are required to keep us happy. Long story short, health, happiness and well-being are actually interconnected.

There is, however, more to health than just this interconnectivity. Health, first and foremost, is not just the absence of disease. Actually, it is something that allows people to cope with the environment in which they are living so that they can live a productive as well as a fruitful life.

Health in general is dependent on our overall socio-economic and personal development. This dependency is responsible for promoting wellness. Therefore, excellent wellness connotes to excellent life. That’s why having a good life along with maintaining impeccable life standards is bound to ensure top-notch wellness and boost health in the process.

In order to maintain good physical health, there are many activities and practices that are to be undertaken. Some of them include an ample amount of physical activity coupled with a well-balanced diet.

Humans are social creatures; therefore, their mental health is dependent on the amount of sociability they display. Upholding social ties and other positive emotions can contribute to good health.

At the end of the day, ensuring good mental and physical health will ultimately improve wellbeing and overall health. Both will provide a sense of content that in turn will increase the secretion of Serotonin – the hormone which regulates mood, prevents depression and makes a person happy.

There are many problems that are actually robing away the state of wellbeing from mankind – a major one is air pollution. Currently, it is increasing at an alarming rate. This increase has a negative impact on health due to being largely responsible for respiratory diseases like asthma and lung cancer.

Not many people know that indoor air pollution plays a great role in increasing the pollution levels. The pulmonary diseases are often being a cause of concern and this in turn is he feels causing stress and anxiety among humans. Pollution levels caused by allergens like pollen, dust, mites along with chemicals can cause indoor pollution. People of old age and babies are susceptible to this problem. As mentioned earlier, good healthiness is largely responsible for happiness. Therefore, it is obvious that with so many diseases in existence, happiness will be nowhere to be seen.

Companies like Blueair are ensuring that this does not take place with their air purifiers that remove air pollution with homes and offices. These devices clean the indoor air from pollutants in a manner that can be best-described as phenomenal. In India, the vision of Blueair has been brought forth by Mr. Vijay Kannan who happens to the India head of Blueair. Indian homes and offices are utilizing Blueair’s well-equipped room air purifiers that can actually monitor the level of pollutants in addition to clearing 90 per cent of the particles causing indoor pollution. To know more about indoor air purifier and how they work, contact 011 4606 7140 or can log in to www.blueair.in. On a closing note, India is witnessing the emergence of happiness free from air respiratory diseases owing to these purifiers.

Room air purifier can be a great way to combat air pollution that occurs in the homes which is often ignored. After all happiness comes from a healthy body and mind.

Don’t Allow Allergies to Interrupt your Sleep

Allergies from airborne allergens take place when a person inhales them as he or she breathes in air. They cause irritation and inflammation in the nasal passage.

Further, people will allergies can also get sleep-related disorders like insomnia – as revealed by a study. Two groups were compared – the first one comprised people who had been treated for allergic rhinitis; the second one comprised people who were completely healthy and free from any sort of allergies. According to the results, sleep-related disorders were more common in people with allergies than those without.

Today, with Indoor Air Pollution (IAP) on the rise, it is quite common to find an abundance of allergens in homes. Some examples are dust, pollen, mites, moulds and pet dander. These particles can provoke the release of a chemical in the body that can cause watery eyes, nasal congestion, sneezing, and also runny nose. These symptoms are greatly responsible for poor sleep. This in turn can also result in daytime sleepiness and fatigue.

These days, India seems to be in the vice grip of air pollution; especially, New Delhi. The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially declared the city as the most polluted one in the country. In such a situation, what can be the solutions to combat air pollution especially, IAP? Although, nasal sprays can be effective, the advisable options have been deemed as air purifiers. They are seen as the best solutions for protecting families members especially children who are extremely vulnerable to allergies.

A home air purifier vested with advanced technologies, such as High-efficiency Particulate Arrestance (HEPA), has the maximum potential of removing allergens from the air. Purifiers made by Blueair (www.blueair.in; 011 4606 7140) are the best in the business as they can remove 99.97 per cent of allergens from the air. In a way, they are turning out to be effective insomnia combatants for sure. While sharing his take on air pollution in India, Mr. Vijay Kannan, Blueair India Head, pointed out the potential of HEPA filters in terms of annihilating particles that are as small as 0.1 microns. The brilliant performance of the Blueair Sense+, Blueair Classic and Blueair Pro is firmly proving the worth of his opinion with every passing day.

Breathing Polluted Air can Lead to Underdeveloped Brains

Health experts have claimed that brain development in children can be adversely affected by Indoor Air Pollution (IAP) – ranging from abnormalities to low Intelligence Quotient (IQ). They have also said that IAP has led to the difference between the working cognitive abilities in children dwelling in urban areas becoming 4-5 per cent lower than children dwelling in rural areas.

According to Dr. S.P. Byotra, the Head of Department of Internal Medicine at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, the findings are extremely unsettling as optimum brain development is central to fortifying the future of children. He also said that children are highly vulnerable to the negative effects of air pollution owing to a higher breathing-rate-to-body-size ratio and less-developed natural barriers in their lungs.

To add to their woes, the air within homes has no dearth of pollutants that can lead to health problems, for example, impaired brain development. Everyday pollutants present in the air like tobacco smoke, lead in paint and toys, toxic fumes from cooking smoke and mycotoxins are some examples.

The findings of the health experts were affirmed by another study published in PLOS Medicine, which is a peer-reviewed weekly journal. According to the study, air pollution in addition to causing respiratory problems can lead to adverse effects on the brain development of children for all ages – including infancy.

Medical experts also cited that millions of children exposed to toxic levels of pollution were suffering from detrimental effects to the brain, including the occurrence of brain abnormalities. The major contributors to this pollution were tobacco dust, IAP and airborne polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

Today, the fight to win back clean, fresh air from pollution is well under way. A large number of companies are investing their experience and knowledge to create tools for removing IAP. One of those tools is an air purifier and the world sees Blueair (www.blueair.in/011 4606 7140) today as its best manufacturer.

Air purifiers remove air pollutants from the air, and Blueair purifiers are able to do the same with a removal rate of 99.97 per cent. They are, therefore, removing all those pollutants that are responsible for impaired brain development.

In addition to purifiers, Blueair has also been at the forefront of launching awareness campaigns. In India, it has launched the Clean Air India Movement (CLAIM) – an awareness campaign about the harmful effects of air pollution. Spearheaded under the leadership of Mr. Vijay Kannan, the chief of Blueair India, CLAIM seeks to plant millions of trees in the years to come in addition to spreading the message about the harmful effects of air pollution.

Blueair’s CLAIM to Diminishing PM10 and PM2.5

Information is presented best when done in a methodical manner, which in turn, entails providing the definitions first. Therefore, without further delay here they are:

PM10: A degree of measure used for measuring the size of small particulates causing air pollution. Mathematically, a polluting particulate measuring PM10 is 10 micrometres or less in diameter.

PM2.5: A degree of measure used for measuring the size of fine particulates causing air pollution. Mathematically, a polluting particulate measuring PM2.5 is 2.5 micrometres or less in diameter.

Also known as coarse dust particles, PM10 pollutants are produced from crushing or grinding activities and the most prevalent one among them is conventional dust – something, that gets produced with every wheel plying the road.

Visible only with an electron microscope, PM2.5 pollutants are produced from combustion of all types – some examples include the combustion processes within automobiles, power plants, forest fires.

It goes without saying that our health is largely impacted by these pollutants. There are many diseases that can take place upon exposure to these pollutants. Some examples are heart and asthma attacks, irregularity in heart beat and reduced lung function, irritation in the eyes, nose and the throat, coughing, compression of the chest and unwanted contraction and even death.

Gwalior, Allahabad and Raipur have been termed to be the cities with the maximum amount of PM10 pollution as per a recent survey. Another survey held in 2015, termed Delhi, Patna, Gwalior and Raipur as the cities with the maximum amount of PM2.5 pollution.

The reason which is attributed behind the findings of both surveys has been the lack of awareness among the people of the country. Thankfully, a company called Blueair has stepped forth with its array of air purifiers, in addition to its aim to achieve pollution-free air within Indian homes and throughout Indian skies. Mr. Vijay Kannan, the chief of Blueair India – the Indian wing of Blueair – has been instrumental right from day one. One of his notable endeavours has been the launch of the Clean Air India Movement (CLAIM) – an awareness campaign aimed at increasing the awareness level of Indian masses with respect to air pollution – both indoor as well as outdoor.

How to Breathe Free from IAP?

Indoor Air Pollution (IAP) has become a predominant existence in our lives; however, we can certainly mend the damage done by ensuring the implementation of certain practices. But, before we go about implementing them, we should fully understand the meaning of IAP.

As the name implies, IAP simply means the pollution of the air within four walls. However, there have been many spin-offs to this definition. The best among them has been given by the World Health Organization (WHO) and entails the rise in the number of harmful pollutants, such as fine particles and carbon monoxide, in the indoor air due to inefficient cooking and heating practices, for example, cooking on open fire or traditional stoves using solid fuel (wood, charcoal, coal, dung and crop wastes).

Now let’s come to the different practices for curbing IAP – as we had mentioned in the first paragraph:

1. Minimizing the emission of chemical pollutants: As complicated as this might sound, it can be done by ensuring the following:

a. No smoking within four walls
b. Minimizing the usage of solvent-based cleaners and the ones with strong fragrances
c. Ensuring that activities like paint stripping, hobby soldering or gluing, painting, sanding and rock polishing are undertaken outside
d. Ensuring to turn off cars within garages and lawnmowers when not in use

2. Controlling moisture: IAP is inevitable in homes with high amounts of moisture. Therefore, the following things should be undertaken for ensuring that the moisture content within homes remains at a bare minimum:

a. Using dehumidifiers for keeping homes dry and maintaining relative humidity levels to less than 60 per cent
b. Repairing leaks within walls and floors as soon as they appear
c. Taking immediate action in the situations of flooding or water drainage, namely:
i. Removing wet materials
ii. Discarding porous materials that have mold
iii. Ensuring that washroom exhaust fans are kept on while showering
iv. Ensuring that indoor plants are not over-watered as this encourage mold-growth

3. Ensuring impeccable ventilation: It is extremely important to ensure smooth passage of air within homes and offices. The following practices should be undertaken.

a. Keeping windows and doors open in summers but not during spring and fall seasons
b. Ensuring to properly install mechanical filters and changing them periodically
c. Using air purifiers for ensuring that the indoor air is consistently purified. Good choices are Blueair Classic and Blueair Sense+
d. Making sure that furnaces, fireplaces, heaters, exhaust fans are vented outside and not towards windows and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) intakes
On a closing note, IAP-free homes are ones that belong to people aware about the harms that can occur from airborne particulates. In fact, the awareness level is the mainstay for ensuring that the air indoors stays clean, fresh and free of air pollutants.

Be Proactive and Buy an Air Purifier

Every morning, running to the balcony to breathe in fresh, clear and rejuvenating air is the best thing to do. Then one should freshen up, have breakfast and get ready for going to work. However, and unfortunately, the world has changed a lot today. Although, nobody has taken away our regular morning routines, there is one thing that no longer exists: Fresh, clean air.

Today, the air-pollution levels of Indian cities have risen to alarming levels. Therefore, living in a pollution-free environment is nothing but a dream. Sixteen out of the 30 most-polluted cities are in India and New Delhi – the capital – is one of them. Further, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the capital as the most polluted city in the world.

Citizens of our nation can’t afford to sit on the side lines waiting for things to happen. The need of the hour is that of displaying a proactive bent-of-mind with a clear focus of curbing the ill-effects of air pollution for making our homes into safe, clean air zones and not polluted ones.

The first of the two steps towards the accomplishment of this goal is purchasing and installing an air purifier. After all, it has many benefits when it comes to cleaning polluted air. Namely:

The ability of removing pollutants measuring as small as 0.3 µm
The ability of eliminating odours completely owing to the removal of even second-hand smoke (put simply, the smoke passively inhaled and present due to the smoking of tobacco by others)
The ability of removing airborne bacteria that can cause serious health problems
The ability of destroying airborne viruses
The ability of removing toxic gases and chemical compounds that can lead to lung cancer

The second step is that of being aware about the type of air purifier that one intends to buy. In order to do so, the following should be kept in mind before a potential purchase:

Why do they need an air purifier?
We should be well-aware about the problem to be solved through an air purifier. If the problem is that of allergies, then HEPA air purifiers should be selected because they are capable of removing 99.97 per cent of common airborne allergens from the air, for example, pollen, dust, ragweed, dust mites, and pet dander.

For asthma, the obvious choice is an asthma air purifier or an odour and chemical air purifier. However, if the level of smoke is high within rooms, then smoke air purifiers should be purchased because they are manufactured to remove smoke, fireplace soot, and other fumes that can either lead to respiratory diseases or unpleasant odours or both.

For people sensitive to chemical compounds, the ideal solution is to purchase an air purifier for Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS).

However, these are not the only problems that one can come across. Therefore, purchasing an all-purpose Blueair purifier, such as the Blueair Sense+, is highly advisable.

What size of air purifier do they require?

The size of air purifiers depends on the dimensions of the room within which the air purifier is to be placed. One should also keep in mind the Air Change per Hour (ACH) rate as well. Blueair purifiers are the best deals because they come in different shapes and sizes. For example, the Blueair Classic can fit as snugly within a room as it can within an office.

What type of features should an ideal air purifier contain?

The knowledge about features works well in selecting the ideal purifier. Therefore, one should check the following:

o Caster wheels
o Handles for easy mobility
o Digital controls
o Multiple fan speeds
o Filter-change indicators
o Programmable timers
o Air-quality sensors

For example, the Blueair Sense+ air purifier comes with a state-of-the-art control method: It is a Wi-Fi enabled air purifier that can be controlled using a smartphone and a mobile application.

Our government should duly aid these purchases by incentivizing air purifiers and reducing the import duties on these devices so that every Indian is able to afford an HEPA air purifier or a room air purifier in his or her home.
